There’s a lot of advice out there on the internet. Commentary around when this millionaire wakes up in the morning, what they eat for breakfast, and how they generally go about their day.
Now I’m not going to lie, I find it interesting. But these discussions often lack the one thing you need to be doing every day if you want to be successful.
But first, let me preface this by saying that everyone has a different idea of what success looks like. Maybe for you, it’s a certain number in your bank account, or maybe it’s being surrounded by people you love - or maybe it’s a mix of both.
Regardless of how you define success, this one habit will take you less than 10 minutes a day, and it has the power to change your life.
I’ll get right into it. If you want to be successful, you need to start brain-dumping.
Brain Dumping.
Brain dumping is the process of writing down everything that comes to mind onto a piece of paper or onto your computer. It doesn’t matter how you do it, but you need to engage in the act of dumping your mind.
Every morning, I sit down with my coffee and my journal to brain dump. I write down everything and anything. Sometimes, it’s meal ideas I want to prep for the week. Other times, it’s general knowledge that I end up forgetting about.
But every now and then, I write something down that has the power to completely transform my life.
But fast forward one year after I executed that TikTok idea, I’ve amassed nearly 500k followers on the platform and discovered a sense of community that I will forever be grateful for.
I switched careers, found my true passions, and discovered more about who I am through brain-dumping.
You see, it all starts with a brain dump. It all starts with getting the idea or the thought onto paper.
Once it’s there, it’s up to you to do what you will with it.
How I Got Started and How You Can Too.
So, how did I get started with brain dumping?
I’ve been brain-dumping ever since college, and truthfully, I started to do it to help ease my anxiety before bed.
If you’re someone who tends to overthink at night, brain dumping is such a great practice to get into.
I would sit down and write down what I didn’t want to forget the next day. If I had a paper I needed to print out, I would star it at the top of my brain dump.
As time went on and I eventually graduated, I continued to brain dump every morning or every night. My lists started to look more like to-do lists at some point, with bits of inspiration in between the fine lines.
I think the reason brain dumping can lead to your success is because it helps you unlock a part of your mind where your ideas go to hide.
I’ll be writing about assignments or projects I have due this week when suddenly, I think of this business idea that I’d love to pursue.
It happens more often than you think it would, and I’m not saying that every idea was a good idea.
But brain dumping gives you the space and the presence to let your mind go there. To let yourself explore thoughts that maybe you overlook throughout your day-to-day life.
You might be asking yourself - but how will it make me successful? Truthfully, you’ll do that on your own through the execution of your ideas. But in addition to that, brain dumping also clears your mind.
You’ll begin to go on through life with a clearer headspace, which in turn can lead to increased productivity levels.
The benefits of brain dumping go on and on, and I really do swear by it.
Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the ways brain dumping can help you become successful:
Brain dumping unlocks potentially life-changing ideas.
Brain dumping clears your mind and gives you a sense of control.
Brain dumping encourages creativity in a practical way.
Brain dumping can show you how you really feel about people and situations.
Brain dumping will allow you to enter or end each day with a sense of peace and inspiration.
If you’re wondering where to start, just grab a piece of paper and a pen - and bring your brain along with you. That’s all you need.
