Best Tips for Working at Home

With so many people transitioning to working from home during this time in the world, I wanted to create a list of some of the best tips for continuing to work at home. I know that it is a very uncertain time, but I hope that in the following weeks I am able to continue to create valuable and useful content that can help you even a little bit! I hope that you and your loved ones are staying healthy and safe, and let’s get into it!

1. Create a routine to fit your new schedule.

It can be really easy to get off track of what you’re supposed to be doing when you are working from home, so make sure that you come up with a routine that you can follow most days!

2. Understand that things are going to be different, and you are going to need time to adjust!

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to adjust immediately; things like this take time, but you’ll get it!

3. Make sure you have a designated spot in your home for work.

In other words, working from the comfort of your bed may seem like a great idea, but it won’t let you be as productive as you could be. Find a desk, table, or other space that you can do your work at (and only work!)

4. Schedule out times for you to take breaks, spend time with your family, and just relax.

While work is important, so is family and yourself! Take time to give yourself breaks throughout your day.

5. Eliminate any distractions while you’re working.

Turn off your phone, log off social media, or do whatever you need to do to eliminate distractions while you work.

6. Change out of your nightclothes.

When you wake up and choose to stay in your PJs, you might find yourself being lazy throughout the day. To avoid this, change into fresh (but still comfy) clothes that will help motivate you!

7. Don’t allow yourself to get the work and home life balance skewed.

Balance is key. A great way to make sure you don’t skew the balance is to have a steady schedule and time blocked calendar that you can follow as a guideline.

8. Get enough sleep.

This one’s pretty self-explanatory! Especially with what’s going on in the world, make sure you take time to get enough rest!

9. Continue to eat healthily and exercise if you are able.

Keeping yourself physically and mentally healthy while working from home will improve all areas of your life! Find new ways to eat well while at home, since snacking can be pretty fun.

10. Destress by giving yourself some alone time for self-care.

With extra time, destressing and relaxing by participating in some acts of self-care can be just what you need. Take a bath, go for a walk, or even read a book! Whatever you choose to do, make sure it makes you happy.

Hopefully, this helps you a little bit with transitioning to working from home! I’ll talk to you all next week with more advice and information for living life while the world seems a bit overwhelming. Stay safe!
